The Heritage Guest House
The Marble Palace, situated in Beckbagan, Lal Masjid near Quest Mall Kolkata was built in 1939 by Khan Bahadur- Dr Syed Siddque, a Gold Medallist from Calcutta Medical College. The grand mansion retraces its architecture to colonial period.
The sprawling mansion comprises of four classic mosaic pillars, breathtaking Italian marble-mosaic flooring and grand doors built and designed with high class Burma teak.
A large old fashioned radiant chandelier hangs from the 14th ft ceiling embedded with floral designs. Marble Palace Guest House also entails an impressive portico that adds both elegance and aesthetic value to the grandeur. The Jafri designed exteriors adds an edgy feel to its colonial magnificence. The mansion was visited by notable political personalities, A.B.A Chowdhury and Golam Nabi Azad who were cabinet ministers in the post independence period.
In 1985, Shehnaz Quadery, granddaughter of Dr. Syed Siddique and niece of A.B.A Chowdhury converted this grand mansion into a guest house. Shehnaz Quadery, was a former general secretary of TMC and Vice chair-man of the Women commission. She is presently a member of the minorities commission of the Guest House.
